"Antarctic Room - Centennial Museum"

What comes to mind when you hear about the polar regions – the Arctic and Antarctic? Snow, ice, darkness, isolation, cold? We often assume these places are identical; however, they each have very unique characteristics and there are many misconceptions about their nature. The Arctic is in the northern hemisphere, while Antarctica is http://www.insightselpaso.org/promo.htmlat the southern tip of the planet. Polar bears live only in the Arctic, while penguins are found only in Antarctica. However, they also share some similarities. They both have been attracting explorers for hundreds of years. Did you know that, for many years, people from UTEP have been travelling to the Arctic and Antarctica as tourists, researchers and support staff? Here are the stories of their adventures and the messages they send to you about how change in these awe-inspiring places affects people all over the world. Come with us as we take you on a journey out of the frying pan and into the freezer...
